Read More Software

Dummy Scenario, Use this software if

  1. You want to recover important files in broken hard disks that has bad sectors.
  2. Your have troubles in reading files from your floppy disks or jump drives and your Microsoft Windows take years to read files.
  3. You accidentally delete IMPORTANT files in your Recycle Bin and you want to undelete / recover back those important files.

Tech Geek Overview

File Scavenger is the full-featured, award-winning data recovery application and file undeleter for NTFS volumes on Windows XP, Windows 2000 or Windows NT.

File Scavenger can recover files accidentally deleted, including files removed from the Recycled Bin, in a DOS window, from a network drive, from Windows Explorer with the SHIFT key held down, provided that recovery is attempted before the files are permanently overwritten by Windows.

File Scavenger supports both basic and dynamic disks, NTFS compression, alternate data streams, sparse files, etc. Except in severe cases, both the file and the folder path leading to the file can be recovered.

With File Scavenger files can be recovered from reformatted or corrupted volumes. This is even possible when a volume has been deleted and its original position on disk and size are unknown.
Using the unique Defunct Volume Search mode, File Scavenger can scan an entire physical hard drive to look for traces of defunct volumes.

Also in this mode, files can be recovered from broken striped volumes (i.e. RAID 0 or RAID 5) provided that the component physical drives are still accessible individually. (For striped set with parity or RAID 5, one drive can be missing.)

Admin Pick and Why

File Scavenger is by far the best files restoring / recovery software that we have tested so far. This software can skip some bad sectors on hard disks and continue pulling whatever information (bits) that it can possible read from the hard disk. So, even though you hard disks / floppy disks / jump drives are deathly broken, you still can retrive pieces of important data out of them. Bravo!

Anti Spyware and Adware Remover(Removal) Software that You Must Load In Your Computer

January 30th, 2007

If you go online, it is 94.3% chance that your computers are infected with Spyware or Adware that are installed in your computer without your permissions. These Spyware and Adware are downloaded when you accidentally visit some “bad” websites. What these software do is generate a lot of Ads, pop ups and record your personal email addresses so that they can sell you something. Alright, enough overview. Let’s start your weapons and kill all of them.

1. AdAware-SE Personal (FREE)

You can’t go wrong with this AdAware-SE personal spyware removal software from LavaSoft. The best part of this software is it is free for personal use. Our test shows that AdAware removes all the cookies and spywares that stored in your temporary folders in Windows. Besides that, it also remove all the bad registry entries in your Windows “Vulnerable” registry system.

If you are an IT admin like us, you should get AdAware Professional Edition or AdAware Enterprise Edition if you need to get large volume of licenses.

Below are the additional features that come with Professional and Enterprise Edition.

2. Microsoft Windows Defender (FREE with Genuine Windows)

As the name suggest, this Spyware and Adware removal software is developed by Microsoft and distributed for FREE but only for genuine Windows users. Before downloading this software, Microsoft website will try to detect the copy of your windows and determine whether you use an original copy of Windows. If your computer pass the test, then you can download and install this wonderful Windows Defender software.

Our test shows that Microsoft Windows Defender does remove some of the spywares that AdAware can’t find. It might because Microsoft knows where their security holes are than any other outsiders.

Besides that, the Windows Defender does protect your Internet Explorer ‘s default page from being hijacked to some “porno sites”

AdminPick.com strongly recommends Windows users to download this software. The Windows Defender has one of our favorite feature: Software Explorer that shows what softwares are running on the background on your computer.

DOWNLOAD LINK: Download Microsoft Windows Defender

Conclusion:

Running these two free spyware removal software in yout computer should able to protect your computer pretty well. There are soe other FREE spyware removal software outthere that does the jobs that pretty much the same as Defender and Lavasoft AdAware. Remember, running too many unnessay programs which in this case are spyware removal and adware removal might slow down your system for no goods.

Best Desktop Blogging Software – Windows Live Writer (Beta)

January 26th, 2007

Microsoft usually doesn’t ship quality software for Free, but Windows Live Writer is the exception.

Windows Live Writer is the most stable and best Desktop blogging software the we have ever tried. We tried w.bloggar 4.1 and Qumana before, but they are just not stable at all.

w.Bloggar

Our experience shows that w.bloggar 4.0 runs great in the beginning (first few posts), but crashes after that. The problem that we got with w.bloggar 4.0 is “connection time out error”, when we tried to post new articles. Sometimes, we manage to get our articles posted, and sometimes, we can’t. However, other than that, w.bloggar 4.1 is a good piece of open source software that needs some improvement in stability and reliability.

Qumana

I hate to say that but Qumana is so far a piece of junk software for us. We have tried several times to install this desktop blogging software but we never had one success post(Oh ya,We did get one posted on HandCellPhone.com, but after that my Windows Crashed).

Windows Live Writer (Recommended)

Windows Live Writer supports all the major blog applications such as Windows.Live, WordPress, and TypePad. The good part about Windows Live Writer is its intuitive interface that looks very alike to Microsoft Words that we use.

If you are a programmer geek like us, you can always switch to HTML code mode to do fancy HTML coding.

Windows Live Writer automatic generates thumbnail when you upload pictures. You can also sharpen the uploaded images and resize the images by dragging with your mouse.

Besides that, the feature that we love the most is the Spelling Check (F-7 shortcut key) that proofread our posts before they appears in our blogs.

If you are a tagging geek like us, you would love Windows Live Writer Insert Tag feature that allow you insert tags of major sites likes Technorati, Del.icio.us, Flickr, 43 things and so on.

Conclusion: Admin would pick Windows Live Writer as your primary desktop blogging software for serious blogger or full time blogger who want to make good incomes online as publishers.

How Good is Windows Vista?

January 25th, 2007
Read More Software / Windows Vista

windows vista CNet has given a pretty bad review about Windows Vista. Although they rate Windows Vista 7.8 out of 10, personally we think CNet is saving the face of Microsoft.

The good: Windows Vista Ultimate does improve some features within Windows XP; fewer system crashes than Windows XP; Windows Vista offers better built-in support options.

The bad: Windows Vista Ultimate does not put Search on the desktop (it’s buried within applications, within the Start Menu); optimized only for the Microsoft Windows ecosystem (for example, RSS feeds from Internet Explorer 7 get preferential treatment); there’s simply too much and not all of it is implemented properly; no new software yet written exclusively for Windows Vista; and there are too many editions of Windows Vista.

The bottom line: Windows Vista is essentially warmed-over Windows XP. If you’re currently happy with Windows XP SP2, we see no compelling reason to upgrade. On the other hand, if you need a new computer right now, Windows Vista is stable enough for everyday use.
